One of the keys to a successful breast augmentation surgery is to pay attention and follow the instructions of your doctor implicitly and when it comes to breast augmentation incision care, this is especially important. The skill of your doctor will play a large part in the success of your breast augmentation surgery but so will your own execution of the aftercare instructions that you are given by your surgeon.

If you follow the directions carefully and everything goes as planned then you should enjoy a trouble free recovery with no issues with your incisions and the scars should fade away to almost invisible over time.

What To Expect Following Surgery

In the first few days following your surgery you can expect to have some pain and discomfort that will vary depending on what type of surgery you elected to have. Some procedures are more painful than others and all people will react to the surgery differently but it’s a safe bet that you can expect some discomfort but nothing that shouldn’t be able to be controlled with medication.

Within a few days of your breast augmentation surgery, the dressings will be removed from your breasts and your doctor will replace this with a surgical bra that will provide compression to your breasts and help them heal and settle a little bit. If you do have any stitches that need to be removed, then they will be taken out somewhere between seven to 10 days in most cases. Until they are removed it’s absolutely critical that you keep them dry, keep them covered with SteriStrips and do not apply any kind of lotion or cream unless directed by your doctor. Your goal is to get the incision closed and to begin the healing process.

Breast Augmentation Incision Scars

Proper incision care is necessary for two reasons, the first being it’s an open wound into your body and you want to make sure it remains clean and dry and that you minimize the risk of infection. The sooner you can get the skin to graft back together and close that wound the better for your short and long term health. The other part of the equation is that you want to make sure your incisions heal nicely and do not tear once they are closed to minimize the scar tissue that may be formed.

Most women have some level of anxiety around what kind of scars they will be left with following breast augmentation surgery. You can expect that your scars will be bright pink and very visible for the first few months following surgery. Slowly over time they will fade to a faint white color and become much less visible than before. You will never be able to get rid of them completely but you can minimize the appearance with proper care.

If after a year or so has passed then you still have options that you can discuss with your doctor including laser surgery and other treatments. Until that time, what is critical is that your properly care for your breast augmentation incisions. Care needs to be taken for the first few months not to tear that incision line as it will be a bit more tender and susceptible than it would have been pre-surgery. Consult your doctor for more specific advice.

Mia asked:

I am considering a breast Augmentation surgery but I am concerned because Breast cancer runs in my family. I am curious if you can tell me if you breast augmentation will increase my chances of developing breast cancer. I already know the doctor will be able to tell me but I don’t want to waste the time for a consultation if the answer is yes.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Our Answer:

Mia, we definitely understand your concern and are pleased to tell you that all of the studies that we have done to this date have shown the breast implants do not increase the risk of contracting breast cancer in any way, shape or form. Some studies have shown a decrease in the risk of contracting breast cancer but you can read way more about it at this study from the National Cancer Institute.

You can discuss with your doctor some of the ramifications of breast augmentation surgery though as it can create some challenges with mammograms and detecting breast cancer in the years ahead but your doctor can discuss this in great detail with you once you get in for a consultation.

Hope that helps.

Breast augmentation is fast becoming one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery as more than 30% of the women in the country are unhappy with their current breast size. While cosmetic surgery is not considered medically necessary is most instances, nonetheless it does require a licensed surgeon with experience and skill to navigate the human body, re-sculpting it to the desired shape. Many women have concerns around what type of breast augmentation scar tissue they may be left with after the surgery.

Breast Augmentation Scars: What To Expect

The type of breast augmentation scar you have depends on the method of entry your surgeon uses. There are three common points of entry for this surgery: around the areola, under the breast, or under the arm. Most surgeons choose the under the breast method because it is closest to the point of resting for implants and if it heals well, it is hardly noticeable.

The skill of your surgeon will directly affect how much scarring you have, no matter the entry point. This is why it is very important to choose a surgeon who is well versed in sculpting breasts and implanting new pieces, since you want to have as few scars as possible. Smaller scars also mean less recovery time, which is vitally important in today’s fast paced world.

Types of Breast Augmentation Scarring

Since it is inevitable that you will have some form of scarring, understanding the types of scars that occur most often with these forms of surgery will help you prepare both physically and psychologically for your recovery. Scars are formed from collagen used to fill any wound in the body. The more excess collagen the body uses, the thicker and more noticeable the scar becomes. As you can imagine, larger wounds produce more collagen so they are more noticeable. This is why many surgeons try to perform the procedure with as few cuts as possible, to reduce scarring and recovery times.

The two main types of scarring that occur with any breast augmentation surgery are hypertropic and keloid scars. Keloid scars the most common type of scar to arise from this type of surgery, but the type depends highly on the procedure used and, of course, the skill of the surgeon. Keloid scars are an extreme build up of collagen that causes a raised bump. This scar extends beyond the wound, where as normal wounds usually have an indentation where the wound occurred.

Hypertropic scars are more rare because of the type of incision used to make, but they are much more noticeable due to being much thicker than keloid scars. These are much more noticeable, so when speaking of scarring with your surgeon, ask what types the incision he plans on making in your body are known to make. Keloid scars are much easier to conceal than hypertropic scars.

The Road To Recovery

Because your procedure produces scarring, this does not mean you have to live with it day in and day out. The amount of scarring that remains after the surgery will depend on your overall health and your genetic make up. There are things you can do to help minimize the appearance of scars and protect your body while you recover from the surgery.

If you are a smoker, you should reconsider lighting up in the days after your surgery, because this can reduce your body’s ability to heal properly, which in turn can increase the scarring you experience with your procedure.

Aside from this, applying sunscreen regularly to the scar can help diminish the appearance of scarring. The chemicals contained in the sunscreen help reduce further damage to the skin and start the healing process so that any scars that have formed will be much smaller. Daily application of sunscreen areas of the body that do not get much sun, like under the breast, is very important to help aid the process of recovery.

Excessive Scarring

If you do experience excessive scarring to the point it makes you uncomfortable not only aesthetic-wise but physically, you may want to seek medical treatment in helping remove the scar tissue. Small treatments that consist of injecting liquid into the scar tissue can help break it down relatively easily, but if you have severe scarring, excision may be the only option. This procedure will completely remove all of the scar tissue and create a fresh wound that will need to be healed again.

As with any cosmetic surgery, breast augmentation is nothing to be taken lightly. Choosing your surgeon wisely will determine how much scar tissue you have, so speak with your surgeon about what to expect. You will also need to take your medical history into account, as well as the type of incision your surgeon plans on making, so that you can better understand how breast augmentation scars occur, and what you can do to minimize their effects during your recovery.

Breast Augmentation Laser Scar Treatment

As we have discussed, scars are inevitable but will likely fade greatly over time, usually a year or so. If you are still unhappy with your breast augmentation scar after a year then you discuss with your doctor undergoing laser scar treatment. There are many different types of laser scar treatment but they all function roughly the same and that is the laser light will vaporize a light layer of skin across the top of the scar. It may take many treatments to fade your breast augmentation scar or it could only take one. It depends on the person.

Other Breast Augmentation Scar Treatments

If you are not open to the idea of laser scar treatment then you have some other options as well including cryosurgery and chemical injections that are designed to soften and fade the scar tissues. The viability of these breast augmentation scar treatments is up for debate so we would suggest that you discuss with your doctor and see which treatment they recommend. They have inevitably seen someone in your situation before and could give you some good advice.

Betty asked:

How bad is the pain during recovery from breast augmentation surgery? Can you please share as I am having a lot of anxiety about this and can’t stop thinking about it.

Our Answer:

The pain will vary dramatically from woman to woman and much of it depends on your particular surgery. What type of surgery did you have and where were the incisions made? It will also depend on how big you went for implants and whether you have them implanted under or over the muscle.

So that’s the bad news….the good news is that all of the various types of pain are controllable with medication and your doctor will take care of you in this regard. The only time most women report feeling any kind of serious pain is when they are recovering in the recovery room and then the surgeon will begin regulating the pain with medication. The key is to communicate well with your doctor and if you are in pain then don’t assume that he or she can tell and let them know about it.

There is no reason to be in extreme pain during the recovery, you can expect some discomfort and some pressure in the chest as you heal but most women report that it is very manageable.

Good Luck.

I really want to get breast augmentation surgery soon but I haven’t scheduled a consultation with a doctor partially because I am not sure if it’s possible. I have done a lot of research on the internet about the surgery but I haven’t seen anything about being overweight or any kind of limitations. Do you know if it’s possible?

Our Answer:

Annie…I know you aren’t going to want to hear this but you will have to consult your doctor because it really depends on many factors including your current weight, your frame size and you general overall health. You did not include any of that information with your question so it’s almost impossible for us to give you a correct answer that is appropriate for you.

We can say that overweight women get implant surgery all the time but it will depend on HOW overweight you are and if you are in good enough health to undergo surgery and anesthesia. We would encourage you to consult a local physician as soon as possible to determine whether you are a good candidate for surgery or not.

Good Luck.

Blood clots are a very real issue that you should be aware of if you are considering any kind of surgical procedure and breast augmentation surgery is no different. The severity of a blood clot can vary wildly and many times people have blood clots that end up dissolving on their own and doing no damage at all but if the clot does happen to lodge in a smaller vein or artery then it can cause some serious damage up to and including stroke or death.

Symptoms of a Blood Clot

The symptoms will vary dramatically depending on where the clot finally comes to rest. As it travels through your blood stream you will not likely feel any significant effect until it lodges somewhere that it can restrict the blood flow significantly. The effects will vary by organ but some of these listed below are things to look out for:

With atrial fibrillation, in which no symptoms occur until a thrombus embolizes.

If the clot embolizes to an artery located in the brain then the symptoms will be that of stroke.

If the affected artery supplies blood to the bowels, then symptoms may include abdominal pain and blood in your stool.

If a leg or arm is affected, then the blood clot or deep venous thrombosis will function like a dam and block the blood flow returning to your heart. This often causes inflammation of the vein, aka thrombophlebitis. Som eof the more common symptoms will include swelling, redness and discoloration, warmth to the touch, and possibly pain that may range from mild to severe.

The major complication of a DVT occurs when the clot breaks off and makes its way to the lung, causing what is known as a pulmonary embolism. Common symptoms include chest pain and shortness of breath and this is a potentially life threatening issue depending upon the extent of the lung tissue that loses blood supply. If you suffer from these symptoms, do NOT wait to see if you get better, see your doctor immediately and hit the emergency room if necessary.

When to Seek Medical Care

If you have recently had surgery and you experience ANY of the symptoms above then you should consider seeing a doctor immediately. When we say immediately we really mean right now as in emergency room type visits. You are far better off to see a doctor and not need to than to not see one and really need it. Blood clots can be extremely debillitating and can very easily cost you your life.

Your doctor can quickly surmise what type of care you may need and will prescribe the right course of treatment. Treatment can range from warm compresses to surgery depending on what type and where the clot is located.

Anyone considering breast augmentation surgery would be very wise to do some research around what some of the typical breast augmentation problems that they might encounter either during or after surgery. The good news is that the vast majority of women who undergo breast augmentation surgery encounter very few issues and report being extremely happy and satisfied with their implants for many years following surgery.

Your surgeon is the best resource for good information around any breast implant problems you may encounter but this article may give you some ideas or concerns you can bring up to him if you are considering surgery or give you some idea of what you may be facing if you have already had surgery.

Common Breast Augmentation Problems

Capsular Contracture: Just about any woman who undergoes implant surgery will have some degree of capsular contracture, it’s the amount and severity of it that can be problematic. CC is basically scar tissue that forms around the implant as your body heals and adjusts to foreign objects being inside. The capsule (scar tissue) can become too tight around the implant and create issues ranging from discomfort to extreme pain and deformity of the breast implant.

This issue can be severe enough that the implant will actually need to be removed and if you are suffereing from capsular contracture, it will not fix itself. The severity of the contracture may range from a mild inconvenience to a severe amount of pain and they tend to get more severe over time so you should consult your doctor immediately if you think you may be suffering from capsular contracture.

Implant Rupture: Breast implants are encased in a silicone outer layer that has the potential to rupture or tear. Typically if your implant ruptures then it is fairly obvious as you will suffer from a decent amount of deflation. The change in your breast appearance can happen almost immediately or it can take place slowly over time but if you do have a rupture then eventually your implant will change size dramatically. Saline implants will typically deflate almost instantly while silicone implants can take years to fully deflate.

Surgery will be required to replace or remove the implant as it cannot be repaired but most insurance companies will not pay for this procedure but most experts agree that a ruptured implant needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. Saline implants will not do much harm to your body as saline is a natural fluid but silicone implants are still being studied to determine the effect so consult your surgeon as soon as possible if you suspect that you might have a rupture.

Breast Implant Infection: Infection is a very real risk anytime surgery is involved so you need to make sure you follow your doctors instructions exactly post surgery. Breast implant infections will have many of the same symptoms that a normal infection will have including high fever, swelling, redness and severe pain. If left untreated, like any infection, the outcome can be as severe as the loss of your life so it’s nothing to mess around with, see your doctor immediately.

You can see in the image that this is a severe infection that has resulted in extreme swelling of the breast. If you suffer anything even remotely similar then do not hesitate and see your doctor immediately. While not guaranteed, most infections will rear their heads in the weeks just following your surgery while you are still recovering from the process but not always. Be vigilant and be aware and do not hesitate to see your surgeon if you think you might have an issue.

Breast Implant Ripples: This issue is much more common with saline breast implants although it can happen with silicone implants as well. The issue is more cosmetic than anything but it can be devastating as most women get their implants to improve the appearance of their breasts. Revision surgery will need to be completed in order to fix this issue if you do end up encountering this breast implant problem.

What causes this issue is attributed to the woman having a small amount of natural breast tissue to begin with or possibly having thinner skin than normal. It isn’t really a fault of the woman or the surgeon and is simply one of those things that may happen when it comes to implants. It is widely accepted that implants under the muscle will be less susceptible to rippling than those placed over the muscle but consult your doctor for more information.

Other Breast Augmentation Problems

Some of the issues above are what are considered localized augmentation problems that will be apparent in or around the breast implant but there are many studies and opinions out there concerning whether women with implants suffer from a higher rate of other diseases or issues. Opinions vary wildly and no conclusive evidence has been produced that shows women with implants have any higher rate of disease or malady than women without them with one exception.

A study by scientists from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has concluded that women with leaking silicone gel implants are more likely to develop fibromyalgia or other painful diseases than women with breast implants that were not leaking. More details about this study and it’s results can be found here. Silicone breast implants are still currently authorized for use in the US by the FDA though but just understand the risks and as always, consult your doctor for any specific questions you might have.

Scarless Breast Reduction surgery has become a cosmetic surgery option that is available for women who either want or need to reduce the size and weight of their breasts. The surgery basically consists of using liposuction to reshape and sculpt a woman’s breast tissue with very minimal scar tissue that is almost non-existent. The advantages of this surgery are many and if you are considering breast reduction surgery then you may want to consider this procedure.

How Scarless Breast Reduction is Performed

The procedure is reasonably straightforward but like with most breast related surgeries, the skill and quality of your surgeon can and will dramatically effect the outcome and your satisfaction with the results following surgery. The basic procedure involves going under general anesthesia and then the surgeon will make a tiny incision in the fold of the breast through which he will insert the sculpting wand called a cannula.

The cannula is the method by which the surgeon will suck the fatty tissue out of the breast and reshape and shrink the breasts to the desired size and shape. The size of the cannula and the skill of your surgeon will play a large role in the outcome and success of this type of surgery. The surgeon will suck the fat tissue out of the breast area and use the cannula to shape and reform the breast in order to produce as good of a result as possible.

Scarless Breast Reduction Recovery

After the surgery is over then you will head into the recovery room to come out of the effects of anesthesia. In most cases you will be up and around on the same day and might even be able to go home the same day of your surgery. You will have specific instructions for your recovery given to you by your doctor but you can expect moderate to strong pain but nothing that prescription pain relievers cannot alleviate.

Bruising and discoloration will be a part of the healing process and you can expect to suffer from these types of effects for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. You will most likely be able to get back to work within just a few days but this will depend on your job duties and how your body responds to surgery. Everyone reacts differently and your surgeon will provide very specific direction on this subject.

Advantages of Scarless Breast Reduction

The advantages should be kind of obvious just from the name but in case you don’t know what is involved with a typical breast reduction surgery then it involves nearly 12 inches of incisions on the average woman. 12 inches of scar tissue can be a lot for any woman to bear and some younger women do not want to face this scar tissue for the rest of their life and during their younger more active years.

Scarless breast reduction will have two incisions but they are tiny and well hidden and will most likely be almost invisible once they are healed properly. Another advantage is that a skilled surgeon can reshape the breast to make for a more attractive package than what you had before. Instead of just being a smaller version of what you had before, your doctor can reshape and sculpt your breasts to a more attractive shape, to a point of course.

A major benefit of scarless breast reduction is also that your nipples are virtually untouched which minimizes the risk that you will not be able to breast feed if you still have child bearing years ahead of you. This is a MAJOR benefit to some women while others don’t care. Either group can also appreciate that you are unlikely to suffer the same loss of sensation that many women report from traditional breast reduction surgery.

The last benefit that we would consider is the cost of scarless breast reduction surgery. This procedure is more economical than the traditional surgery simply because it is a less invasive and less involved procedure. You will have to check with your surgeon for your own costs on it as it varies wildly from area of the country to area of the country and you really will only get an accurate cost from your own surgeon. Make sure you ask him or her for an all inclusive price as many times you will get his quote only but not the anesthesiologist, the medical center, the nurses, the x-ray techs etc.

Are You a Candidate for Scarless Breast Reduction Surgery

The best candidates for this type of surgery are women who are well educated on what they can expect from the surgery. What kind of results are typical, what is possible and what is not and that have a lot of confidence in the quality of their surgeon because they have done their research and have located a good one.

The surgery itself doesn’t really require any special precautions that most traditional surgeries wouldn’t either and of course you will have to be cleared for the surgery by your doctor. It is rare that insurance will pay for this type of procedure unless deemed medically necessary but again, this will depend on your individual circumstances and the quality of your insurance plan. Your doctor can help you with this process as well.

You will probably be told to take a week away from work just in case but many women report being up and getting around nicely in just 3 days give or take. We would plan on the full week and then if you can get around early so be it but at least you won’t be stuck going back to work before you are ready.

Nobody likes to pay more than they need to when it comes to anything they buy and breast implants are no different but before you go selecting a surgeon because he offers cheap breast implants then you need to finish reading this article and consider the whole picture.

Many people search every day for what breast implants cost or cheap breast implants or even cheapest breast implants as though they were looking for a deal on a Playstation at Christmas time. You really need to consider the fact that while many consider breast augmentation surgery to be pretty simple and straightforward, it isn’t. Breast augmentation surgery is a fairly complex procedure that can have extremely varied degrees of success when completed and this is a major decision that you are making and maybe you shouldn’t shop for breast implants like you would a pair of shoes.

Breast Implant Costs

Despite what we said above, we realize that many women have to scrimp and save for quite some time to be able to finally afford breast implants and that the cost of the breast implants is an important factor and something they will have an interest in. If it helps, the national average cost of a breast augmentation surgery runs between 3k dollars and 4k dollars depending on the surgeon. This may seem affordable at first BUT, you knew there was a but didn’t you, but you need to understand that this price is JUST the surgeons fees and the price of the implants. It does not include your anesthesia, medical facility fees, specialists fees, medical center fees etc and all of these can double that cost. No matter how you spin it, breast augmentation surgery is not cheap.

If you are considering this surgery then make sure you discuss the topic very thoroughly with your surgeon and make sure that you are given and are aware of the total cost of breast augmentation surgery. The time you spend researching and asking questions now, will help ensure that you are a much more satisfied patient in the future. We still don’t think that the cost should be your determining factor when you select a surgeon but you do need to fully understand that costs involved as well as the ramifications if you focus on cheap breast implants.

The Truth About Cheap Breast Augmentation

We are certainly not trying to scare you when it comes to this topic but we want to make sure you understand that bargain basement surgery can go horribly wrong and while cheap breast augmentation surgery might appear to be attractive at first, the consequences can be significant and irreversible. The list of things below can happen with ANY surgeon at any price level but we seem to always see more issues from the bargain basement type surgeons than any other.

We won’t go into detail on the things that can go wrong but needless to say you should be aware that you get what you pay for when shopping for a surgeon. Surgery always involves the possibility of death and that is certainly not appealing to most. You could suffer from rupture, improper placement, heavy scar tissue, incorrect sizing and any number of other issues if your surgeon is not skilled in this type of surgery.

We would be remiss if we did not mention that price alone also does not guarantee that you will get the best treatment and/or results either. Price, whether high or low, is not an indicator of quality. You should make sure your surgeon is board certified and seek out references from patients who have seen this doctor. Review his or her work and look at their portfolios. How do they look? Word of mouth, lack of complaints, strong portfolios etc are all great things to look for when selecting a surgeon.

Conclusion

So we hope that our article has encouraged you to seek out more information around the topic and that you at least understand that price should not be a leading factor when selecting your surgeon. We would encourage you to do your homework on your surgeon and meet with a few of them to find the one that you feel the most comfortable with. Some things to consider is how much time do they dedicate to explaining things to you, are they willing to spend time educating you, do they come across sincere, professional and would you feel comfortable with your life in this person’s hands?

That might sound like a pretty heavy statement about a routine surgery but remember, no surgery is routine and they all involve risks. The money you save on a pair of cheap breast implants is definitely not going to help you if you are disfigured for life or even unhappy with the way your breasts look. It doesn’t have to be a life or death situation for you to want to seek out a quality doctor but just simply wanting the best looking pair of boobs that you can get should lead you to seek out the best quality surgeon you can find.

If you are researching breast augmentation surgery then you will no doubt run across rumors around the internet concerning free breast augmentation surgery that is available from various places. We have seen these mentioned on websites and social hangouts over the last 12 months so we decided to do some investigation into the subject and see if you could indeed find a deal that would give you free breast implants.

Does Free Breast Augmentation Exist?

Well we fired up the Google box and started researching the subject and we found a number of references to women who had obtained free breast implants. The validity of these references is another thing altogether but we were able to find a few sources of free breast augmentation surgery that appeared to be legitimate. We are NOT saying that it is but to the best that we could determine they do exist.

One of the sources of free breast implants that came to light quite often was radio personality Howard Stern who apparently routinely gives away free breast augmentation surgery to women who are willing to come on his show and entertain his audience. If you are not familiar with the Howard Stern show, then you should know that these implants wouldn’t come easily. You will only receive the free surgery if you are willing to perform crazy acts on his show. We won’t detail any of those that we found but needless to say, you might be more inclined to pay for your own implants rather than go on that show.

My Free Breast Implants

We also came across a number of references to a website that is called My Free Implants that allows women to possibly obtain free breast augmentation surgery from benefactors on the website. We’re not sure if the site is on the up and up or legitimate but we found several testimonials of women who claimed success.

The basic premise of the site appears to be this, women can sign up for the site where men and women congregate online and basically try to make friends with male benefactors of the site. These men sign up for the site under the premise that they can make donations to their favorite women to contribute to their breast implant fund. This sounds kind of far fetched and we would tread lightly here and be extremely careful as we found several testimonials that stated the men expect nude pictures and pornographic type activity in order to make contributions.

If this sounds like something you would consider then you can check it out for yourself but in our opinion, this is probably a very tough way to acquire your breast implants.

Breast Augmentation Financing

The best alternative that we could find didn’t involve free breast implants but rather involved some very attractive financing packages for your breast implants. Many surgeons and doctors offices can point you in the right direction to get you some reasonable financing rates that will allow you to make smaller payments over time and afford your breast implants that way. This would be much more attractive than trying to write a check for several thousand dollars all at once if you don’t have the money.

Your credit rating and income will obviously come into play when you are trying to finance your breast implants. The better your credit and pay history then the better deal you will be able to attract to finance your surgery. In many cases we have seen financing that gives you an interest free period where you may be able to raise enough money before this time period runs out to not pay any interest at all.

Free Breast Augmentation Summary

In our opinion, if you are looking for free breast augmentation surgery then you are going to be disappointed. There are possibilities out there but they are going to be difficult to find and take advantage of and there will definitely be a ton of competition for any free offers that might exist.

You are much more likely to be able to find a decent financing deal for your surgery and take advantage of that than to find a pair for free. We would caution you to tread lightly and don’t get so wrapped up in acquiring your breast implants that you compromise your integrity or your principles.
